Saturday Dance Club
MC at Woodside Hall was Mr D. Salt. Finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallett. Refreshments were by Mrs M. Blakemore on her birthday and served by Mr and Mrs D. Niblett. Mrs H. Pearson, Mrs J. Woodcock and Messers R. Hill. S. Halettt, D. Freeman and K. Wake.
Cubs
Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church and had a fitness night when attempted various exercises in 60 seconds. Mr I. Taylor was assisted by explorer scouts Jordan Grieve and Lorna Shepherd.
Tuesday Club
Met yesterday week at Woodside Hall. Hostesses were Mesdames B. Rudd, K. Betts, M. Siven, L. Bown and E. Murtagh. Table games were organised by Mrs M. Siven. Sweep winners were Mrs E. Murtagh and Mrs L. Bown. Whist was organised by Mrs P. Lea and the winners were Mrs M. Lunn and Mr S. Lunn.
Parish Church
The Rev Angela Fletcher was celebrant and preacher at early Communion. Mrs Ann Brookes assisted with the chalice. At the later service the Rector was celebrant and Mrs Lucille Porter preached. Mrs Sue Richard and Tony Hague assisted with the chalice. The reading was given by Mrs Kate Colclough and intercessions were led by Mrs Maxine Hague. Prayer Ministry was led by Ken Johnson and Mrs Ann Brookes. Organist Tony Herrod accompanied the choir. The Mothers Union group celebrated their 100th anniversary on Sunday week with a celebration lunch.
Beavers
Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church and had a circus skills evening when they took part in plate spinning, juggling and dialogue. Ben Eccleston and Daniel Kirkham received imagination badges. Miss K. Howard assisted.
Birklands School
Pupils attended their Harvest Festival service held at the Parish Church.
Camera Club
Members met at Longden Terrace Miners Welfare when they had a competition which was judged by Chris Forster.
Age Concern
Met at Friendship House on High Street yesterday week for luncheon and bingo.
Church Vale School
Held their Harvest Festival with produce brought by pupils being donated to the Salvation Army.
St Teresa’s RC Church
Sunday week’s Morning Mass was celebrated by Father Lucian who also gave the Homily. The reading was given by F. Barrett and Eucharistic Ministers were K. Payne, A. M Pearson and D. Pearson. Children met in the Church Hall for activities before joining the main service at the offertory. On Wednesday week the prayer group met at the Convent. Yesterday week volunteers staffed the Cross Keys charity shop and Café.
Methodist Church
Sunday week’s Communion service was conducted by the Rev Clare Burl who preached.
Bellringers
Met in the ringing chamber of the Parish Church tower on Sunday week and rang for the morning service. Tower Captain Chris Richards conducted ringers
Scouts
Met on Wednesday week at the Methodist Church and completed map work by planning a hike by filling in a route card and then discussing what equipment would be needed. Joe Newton received a patrol leaders badge and global conservation badges were presented to Damien May, Jamie Thomas and, Joe Newton, Mr A. Grieve and M C. Porteous assisted. District commissioner Mr K. Morris made a visit.
Market Players
Rehearsals continued last week for the group’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty which will be performed in December at Longden Terrace Miners’ Welfare. Tickets are available from the Town Hall, Clumber Pets and the Welfare.
