Old Warsop Society
On Wednesday week about 30 members met at the Parish Centre for the 29th AGM. The minutes from last year’s meeting were approved. The chairman gave his report and mention was made of two members who had died Miss Norma Langton and Mr Austin Webster. A plaque is to be placed in church in memory of Miss Langton. The committee was re-elected and refreshments were served by Mrs K. Milburn and Mrs S. Marshall.
Celebrant at Sunday week’s Michaelmas Holy Communion and Thanksgiving service was the Rector the Reverend Angela Fletcher and the preacher was Canon Richard Kirton. At the later service the Rector was celebrant and Canon Kirton preached and together with Mrs Ann Brookes assisted with the chalice. The reading was given by Mrs Jenny Briggs and intercessions were led by Peter Birchenall. Prayer Ministry was led by Mrs Joy Brealey and Mrs Joyce Clarke. The choir sang accompanied by organist Tony Herrod. On Saturday week a Parish Supper was served in the Tudor Barn, after supper speaker was former Rector and Provost of Southwell Minster the Rev David Leaning.
Saturday Dance Club
MC at Saturday week’s meeting at Woodside Hall was Mr D. Salt. Finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallett and Mrs S. Linnell. Refreshments were served by Mr and Mrs D. Niblett, Medammes M. Mellors, H. Pearson and J. Woodcock and Messer’s R. Hill, S. Hallett, D. Freeman and K. Wake.
Visited the Parish Church on Thursday week as part of work towards their faith badge, Reverend Angela Fletcher gave them a tour of the church assisted by Mrs C. Picken.. Charlie walker was invested by Mr I. Taylor. A collectors badge was presented to Ethan Grieve and a night’s away stage 1 badge to Charlie walker. On Saturday week cubs Callum Watson, Evan Edwards, Charlie walker, Liam Bostock and Ben Stevenson attended a district cub day at Southwell Minster to complete their faith badge, which were then presented to them. Mr A. Melless accompanied them.
Met recently for rehearsals for their forthcoming pantomime Sleeping Beauty which will be performed from 27th to 29th December at Longden Terrace Miners’ Welfare. Tickets are available from the Talbot Pub. Clumber Pets and the Town Hall.
Bells for Michaelmas were rung on Sunday week when ringers met in the ringing chamber of the Parish church tower. Ringers were conducted by tower captain Chris Richards.
Met on Thursday week at the Warsop Vale Hotel when Mr Jeff Fareham gave a talk entitled National Service.
Was held at the Hare and Hounds on Friday week for Macmillan and Help for Heroes when there was a tombola, stalls and refreshments, which helped raise over £800.
St Augustine’s Church
Sunday week’s Holy Communion and Thanksgiving service was conducted by the Rector the Rev Angela Fletcher and the preacher was Canon Richard Kirton who assisted with the chalice.
Met on Wednesday week at the Methodist Church and completed work for their global conservation badge by looking at recycling, energy saving measures and alternative ways to produce power. Damien May, received a night away badge. Mr A. Grieve and Mr C Porteous assisted.
St Teresa’s RC Church
Sunday week’s morning Mass was celebrated by Father. Keith Frisby. The reading was given by S. Harkin and Eucharistic ministers were A. M. Pearson, A. Burgin and M. Booth. Holy hour was led by A. M. Pearson. Children met in the church hall for activities before joining the main service at the offertory. On Wednesday week the prayer group met.
Rhyme Time for toddlers and parents was held yesterday week, with songs for babies and tots together with action songs and stories.
Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church and made mini pizzas, followed by games. Miss K. Howard assisted.
Sunday week’s service was conducted by Mrs I. Spencer who also preached.
A beat surgery was held on Thursday week at Coral Crescent when residents had the chance to discuss any issues with the beat time.
Met on Friday week at Meden Sports Centre for table tennis and refreshments.
