St Andrew’s Church

Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, celebrated Sunday week’s early said and later sung Holy Communions. Reader John Whitbread assisted at the later service. Organist was John Dunn. Sheila Shepherd and Jane Crafts gave Bible readings and David Lomas led prayers. Mary Whitbread and Celia Kellett were in the ministry team, and stewards were Ron and Sheila Shepherd. Marlene Smith and Marilyn Turner served refreshments. Last Monday week there was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity period. Later at the church hall Jennie Sharpe and church members organised a Messy Church session. On Thursday week there was 20-minutes of prayer for the church’s mission.

Busy Bees Buggy Club

At Anchor Centre 13 pre-school children, accompanied by adults, attended last Tuesday week’s meeting and six attended Thursday week’s meeting. Activities included craftwork, singing and play with a doll’s house, jigsaws and toy vehicles. Beechwood Court 50 Plus Club

On Thursday week chairman Mr Norman Broadbelt was bingo caller and opened the meeting attended by 33 members. Mrs M. Hoyland and Mrs S. Clarke served teas and Messrs R. Birkin. J. Clarke and T. Rowe did kitchen duties. Mesdames J. Boyer, M. Marchant and B. Waring and Mr Birkin sold tickets. Raffle winner was Mr Birkin and Mesdames Marchant, M. Gwynn and Hoyland helped with bingo. Members played dominoes and sang birthday greetings to Mrs Waring who provided refreshments to celebrate.

Methodist Church

The Rev Judith Shewen, assisted by Anne and John Baines, led Sunday week’s cafe-style all-age service. She baptised Matthew Mark Alan Lewis. Door stewards were Margery Pierpoint and Josie Kemp and vestry stewards were Kathleen Bramwell and Len Jones. Denise Matters and Di Smith operated the clavinova and Doris Taylor manned the sound mixer desk. Eileen Lawrence gave a PowerPoint presentation. Junior church members took the offertory and Shannon and Megan Jones said prayers. Sheila Clarke assisted at the baptism and John Baines, Len Jones, Josie Kemp and Caroline Nash did a sketch based on the Parable of the Talents. Claire and John Gilder served refreshments.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre, chairman Mr David Franks opened the annual meeting, attended by 26 members. Officers elected were: Chairman, Mr Franks; vice-chairman, Mr J. Clarke; secretary, Mrs P. Patton; treasurer, Mrs M. Gwynn; committee members – Mr and Mrs S. Briggs and Mesdames M. Hoyland, K. Nelson, S. Clarke, J. Hague and M. Wallace. Raffle winner was Mrs F. Else.

Skegby Brownie

Leaders Catherine Willis and Anne Bagley took members 10-pin bowling at Mansfield Super-bowl on Monday week.

Skegby Rainbows

At Monday week’s meeting there was a party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the unit. Games included Musical Chairs. Star of the week awards went to Emily Hyder and Isabel Hassell. Leaders Pam and Jo Peake, Helen Halfpenny and Jamie Brelsford were assisted by Guide Charlotte Peake.

G Force Line Dancing

Members had a revision night at Anchor Centre and prepared for a dancing weekend at Chichester, West Sussex.
