Community News - Skegby

St Andrew’s Church

On Saturday week church members had a ‘harvest walk’ from the Skegby church to Teversal St Katherine’s and Stanton Hill All Saints’ churches, where refreshments were served. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, celebrated Sunday week’s early said Holy Communion and, with Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, led all-age harvest service. Music was by organist John Dunn and Brightlights Youth Band. Jane Crafts and Pam Clarke were in the ministry team and stewards were Danny Thompson and Sharon Hallam. Donations from the harvest were for Beacon Project at St John’s Church, Mansfield. Last Monday week there was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity period. Last Tuesday week the vicar conducted the funeral of Jayne Milner. John Dunn was organist.

50 Plus Club

Chairman Mr Norman Broadbelt welcomed 29 members and was bingo caller. Mrs S. Key and Mrs M. Marchant served teas and Mrs J. Turner, Mrs M. Gwynn, Mr A. Key and Mr T. Rowe did kitchen duties. Ticket sellers were Mesdames J. Boyer, R. Renshaw and Marchant. Raffle winner was Mrs N. Ball and members played a card game. Mrs Gwynn and Mrs Marchant assisted with bingo.

Busy Bees Buggy Club

At Anchor Centre Thursday week’s meeting was attended by 15 pre-school children, accompanied by adults. Helena Redfern and her son, Lewis, were welcomed. Activities included crafts, singing and play with a tunnel, a doll’s house and toy vehicles.

Skegby Guides

Communications badgework was completed at Monday week’s meeting at Quarrydale School, Sutton. Leaders were Erika Marshall and Pam and Bethany Peake.

Methodist Church

At Anchor Centre Saturday week’s community coffee morning raised more than £360 for Neil and Lucie Hutson’s youth work in Albania. Ashfield District Coun Ann Patrick showed a map of proposed developments in Sutton. Jean Hutson, Brenda Johnson, Josie Kemp, Stuart Bramwell, Doris Taylor and Joan Hollingsworth served refreshments and Gerald Hutson was cashier. Maureen and Derek Megainey ran a bring-and-buy stall and Sheila Clarke, a card stall. Eileen and Howard Lawrence manned a cake stall. Daren Holmes conducted Sunday week’s service. Kathleen Bramwell opened the service and gave a Bible reading.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre chairman Mr David Franks opened Monday week’s meeting attended by 30 members. Raffle winner was Mrs S. Clarke. Mrs J. Turner and Mrs P. Patton sold tickets. Bingo callers Mr J. Clarke and Mrs M. Wallace were assisted by Mrs M. Gwynn and Mrs M. Hoyland. Mrs J. Hague and Mrs R. White did kitchen duties. Birthday greetings were sung to Mr S. Briggs, who provided refreshments, and to Mr A. Parkes, who made a donation in lieu of refreshments.

Skegby Rainbows

Star of the week awards went to Hanna Makison-Smith and Louise Smith at Monday week’s meeting at Quarrydale School. Emily Evans, Brooke Riley and Isabel Hassell were given weekly awards. Members made items for displaying photographs and sang. Birthday greetings were given to leader Helen Halfpenny. Other leaders were Pam and Bethany Peake and Jamie Brelsford.

G Force Line Dancing Class: At Anchor Centre Gaye Teather taught a rumba at yesterday week’s meeting.
