Diabetes UK Mansfield
Importance of monitoring diabetes control was emphasised by David Bailey, Diabetes Specialist Nurse at King’s Mill Hospital, to Diabetes UK Mansfield Voluntary Group members at their monthly meeting. Ignoring signs and symptoms could result in longer and more serious problems in later years,especially amongst young people. Chairman Val Reeson expressed thanks. The next meeting is on 13th November (Clinic 5).
Bridge Street Meths
Sunday worship was led by Molly Pollitt on the theme of Why do bad things happen to good people?’. A reading was by Ian Coles, who played music with Jan Dawes. At a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support, £130 was raised.
Unitarian Old Meeting
Morning Service at the Old Meeting House School Rooms was led by the Rev Patrick Timperley. The chalice candle was lit by Mrs Ann Binch accompanied by a reading of opening words by Mrs Janet Rider. The Minister welcomed guest speaker, Mrs Ann Harrison, president of the Unitarian Women’s League. Mrs Harrison read the story of the Scientist Sparrow. The Minister gave a reading from the Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes. Sunday School was led by Mrs V. Brown. The choir sang an anthem, O God Of Stars and Sunlight by John Holmes. Organist was Bill Brown. Steward was Neil Fisher, who took the collection with Paul Frost. Refreshments were served by Pat Cairns.
St Mark’s Church
Celebrant and preacher at the 9.30am Parish Eucharist was the Rev Keith Hebden who also baptised Leah Marie Martins. The Young Lions youth group played ‘Silly’ Olympics, led by Phil Bishop and all stayed for a sandwich lunch.
St Augustine’s Church
The Rev Michael Dobbs celebrated Communion, preached and gave the blessing. Reader Nigel Patten led the service and intercessions. Angela Walton read the epistle and took the offertory. Sue Wilson read the gospel, Roger Walton gave the chalice. Angela Walton and Karen Bellamy served refreshments. The ladies guild enjoyed a fish and chip supper organised by Angela Walton.
