Unitarian Old Meeting

On Sunday there was a Harvest Festival Service at the Old Meeting House led by the Minister, Rev Patrick Timperley. The chalice candle was lit by Mrs Wendy Neville. The Minister read the story of the workers in the vineyard from the New Testament Gospel according to Saint Matthew as retold by Bill Darlison. The second reading was “Tradition” by Frank Walker. The Minister’s address reflected on tradition and innovation and the environmental and economic challenges facing humanity. The Children’s Sunday School was led by Catherine Wycherley. The choir sang an anthem. The organist was Bill Brown. The steward was Neil Fisher, who took the collection with Paul Frost. After the service there was a harvest lunch and an auction of produce for the Church Roof Restoration fund.

Bridge Street

At Bridge Street Methodist Church on Sunday 23rd September, morning worship was led by Molly Pollitt on the theme of ‘How we Treat Others’. Readings were given by Ian Coles and Angela Pothecary, and music was played by Ian Coles and Jan Dawes.

Old Mansfield Society

Last Tuesday week a talk was given at St Peter’s Church Centre by Andrew Tucker on ‘The Palace Theatre’. Copies of the society’s various publications were also on sale.

St Mary’s Church

At St Mary’s Church, Ladybrook, on the Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity, Morning Praise to celebrate Harvest was led by Lynda Woodward. Donations of food and toiletries were received for the Beacon Project and money for Mothers’ Union Overseas Fund. Lessons were read by Carole Partridge, Lynda Woodward and Judith Mather. Nick Harding gave the talk. Intercessions were led by Jim Cockett, Val Pearce, Lynda Woodard and Judith Mather. Lynn Kidd and Shirley Dawe were sidespersons. Nick and Callum Harding led the worship on piano and cornet.

St Augustine’s Church

Canon Geoff Maltby celebrated Communion, preached and gave the blessing. Reader Nigel Patten led the service and prayers. Andy Millot and Roger Walton read the epistle and the gospel. Leslie Marriot served. Ian Wilson gave the chalice. Jennie Shacklock took the offertory. Jane Carlin and Shirley White served refreshments.
