St John’s Church
On Saturday evening there was a Pie, Pea and Bingo evening which raised £163 for church funds. On Sunday morning a Harvest Festival and Parish Communion was led by the Rev Mary Essex. Sidespersons were Kath and Jack Buxton. Abbey Fowkes helped with the collection. The readers were Gail Rigley and Mike Lowe. The prayers were by Terry Summers. Speaker Richard Woodhouse spoke about the work of the many volunteers who organise the filling and transporting of Aqua Boxes to many countries abroad to help them have fresh drinking water. Church members had collected household items, tools and toiletries to fill an Aqua Box donated to the church in memory of Mrs Brenda Hurt who was a well-known Rotarian and who worked very hard for charity. A Harvest Lunch in the Church Hall. Evening Worship for Harvest was shared with Forest Road Methodists and All Saints, Annesley and this service was led by Elaine Moulton and Mary Andrews. The readers were Terry Summers, Doreen Dickens, Hazel Warren, Jean Bradbury and Betty Runacus. A short talk was given by Elaine Moulton. A reflection was presented by Elaine and Mary. The organist for the day was Hazel Warren.
