Clipstone centenarian donates birthday to charity

Muriel Gee celebrates her 100th birthday in Clipstone on Wednesday

A KIND-HEARTED resident at a Clipstone care home has reached a three-figure milestone- and celebrated by raising cash for good causes.

Muriel Gee received her telegram from the queen on the day turned 100 and enjoyed a special birthday bash where she lives at Clipstone Hall Care Home.

The home put on a special buffet, and gave her a huge bouquet of flowers.

But rather than receive presents, she asked for donations to charities, the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, and the Dogs Trust.

Her daughter Molly, who is 75, said: “We have always supported the Dogs Trust and the air ambulance is a very good  charity which is so very helpful for people.

“We have £70 for the dogs and £60 for the air ambulance so far but there is more to come in.

“She is very with it, more than me! The problem is mobility.”

Muriel went into the home in February having lived in Edwinstowe since 1935, when she married.

She is originally from West Hallam in Derbyshire.
