Nottinghamshire County Council is to host a civic reception to celebrate the successes of local athletes, coaches and other key contributors to London 2012.
The reception will take place at Trent Bridge, the home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on the evening of 9th October.
Nottinghamshire County Council has been keenly following the fortunes of around 25 athletes and coaches who have represented Team GB at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Dressage rider Sophie Wells and swimmer Ollie Hynd are among the local athletes funded through the county council’s Shining Stars scheme who have won gold medals at the Games and have each won three medals with stunning performances.
In total, ten athletes who are funded through the Shining Stars scheme represented Team GB, and receive an annual grant of £2,012 to help with transport and travel costs.
Some of the highlights for Notts at London 2012 include:
• Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie (gold) and David Florence and Richard Hounslow (silver) have all trained at the National Water Sports Centre, which is managed by the county council.
• Mansfield’s Becky Adlington clinched two bronze medals at the Aquatics Centre, and her swimming club Nova Centurion receives an annual grant from the county council.
• Other Shining Star medal successes have included Richard Whitehead (gold), Sam Oldham (Gymnastics, bronze) and Charlotte Henshaw (swimming, silver).
• Nottinghamshire County Council staff Maggie Else and Pete Edwards were named as line judges for the Boccia tournament at the Paralympics.

“We are delighted to be able to host a reception event to celebrate everyone’s successes at Trent Bridge, one of our iconic sporting venues in the county.
“It is a chance to share some of the stories and wonderful memories of London 2012 and to celebrate with them their successes on behalf of Nottinghamshire and Team GB.”
