Carr Vale drink-driver fined
POLICE found a Bolsover motorist drunk at the wheel of his parked car after two women raised the alarm.
The pair flagged down a patrol car in Chesterfield town centre at 2.30am on 23rd September and pointed out a Volkswagen Golf to officers.
It was parked on a grassed area between Holywell Street car park and the surrounding roundabout with its lights on and engine running.
Jenny Fitzgerald, prosecuting, told town magistrates that Paul Marrows was strapped into the driver’s seat and appeared to be asleep.
“He was spoken to and he barely woke up. He was in a very intoxicated state and his speech was incomprehensible,” said Mrs Fitzgerald.
Marrows (48) was arrested and gave a reading of 81mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, the limit for drivers being 35mcgs.
Marrows, of Sutton Hall Road, Carr Vale, admitted being in charge of a vehicle while over the drink-driving limit.
He was fined £88, with £85 costs, and 10 penalty points were imposed on his driving licence.
He told the court: “I was just going through a bad time. I had my house repossessed and no job.
“I suffer from severe depression and I hadn’t been taking my tablets, but I am on them again now. I’m really sorry about this.”
He added: “I’m glad I got arrested because I could have killed someone if I’d driven. It’s just disgraceful, isn’t it.”
