Calls for Meden Baths to stay open
CAMPAIGNERS have welcomed a new report which calls for Warsop’s Meden Sports Centre to stay open at least another year.
The Burns Lane centre was earmarked for closure by Mansfield District Council last month as the authority looked for ways to deal with a budget black hole of £3.1m.
But after investigating all proposed cost-cutting measures, a council committee has called for the decision to be put back until a review on leisure facilities next year.
The committee, known as Select Commission Three, has also called for other changes to the council’s proposed budget next year, including a further reduction in overtime and the scrapping of occupational health at the authority.
The committee’s chairman Coun Linda Wilkinson reported back to the council’s cabinet last week.
And news that Meden Sports Centre, which has a swimming pool and a sports hall, could be granted a reprieve has been given a cautious welcome by community leaders and the Save our Swimming (SOS) group this week.
