Cafe owner jailed for sex assaults on teenage girls

A Mansfield cafe owner has been jailed for sexually assaulting two teenage waitresses at work.

Cumaali Calak (37), plied one of the girls, aged 18, with alcohol, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

Jailing him for 12 months, Judge Michael Stokes told him: “You acted in breach of trust as their employer.

“It has to be made absolutely clear that sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Calak, of Leeming Street, who had a Turkish interpreter in court with him, ran Lydia’s Cafeteria in Leeming Street with a partner.

A 16-year-old working there last year was downstairs and bent over looking for napkins, said Richard Thatcher, prosecuting.

Calab leaned over her and touched her breasts over her clothing.

A few weeks later the girl was washing up when he put his hands on her hips and began a grinding motion ‘as if simulating sex from behind’, said Mr Thatcher.

Calak said he liked his girls dirty. She slapped him and left her job.

He was arrested last March but made denials to the police.

The 18-year-old girl was working only her third shift when Calak gave her a Jack Daniels and coke.

He asked her if she was sexually active, then put his hands round her waist, pulled her towards him and began a grinding action.

The teenager was tearful and shaking when she went home and told her mother.

Calak, who pleaded guilty to the sexual assaults, had no prior convictions.
