Up to 16 new bungalows could be built on a strip of land in Forest Town.
An application will be put to planners at Mansfield District Council to develop Flint Avenue.
The 1.37 hectare plot consists largely of overgrown scrubland, a community centre and garages.
A children’s play area was previously removed because of persistent anti-social behaviour.
The site is surrounded by properties on all sides.
The application, submitted by Mansfield district Council’s strategic housing, states that it is uncertain if the garages and community centre would remain and several options are being considered.
However, a new play area would be provided.
The homes proposed are all single-storey and would mainly have two or three bedrooms, with one one-bed property.
A new pumping station would also be required, although it is undecided where it should be positioned.
The council says the homes would go some way to alleviating the affordable housing shortage in the area.
