BOOTH CRESCENT FIRE: School will be closed due to smoke damage

A MANSFIELD primary school will be closed tomorrow (Monday) following a fire.

Fire crews from Mansfield and Ashfield were called to Crescent Primary School, on Booth Crescent, at around 7.20am this morning after a fire broke out in the boiler room.

Five tonnes of wood chippings had caught fire and crews spent around three hours tackling the blaze.

The main school building has not been damaged but suffered smoke damage and has been closed so that it can be cleaned.

A statement on the school’s website says: “Please note the whole school will be closed on Monday 29th and possibly Tuesday 30th due to a fire in the lower boiler room.

“We will inform everyone by text and confirm if school will be re-open Tuesday.”
