Bolsover man jailed for theft
A BOLSOVER man with a drug problem has been locked up for offences of theft, damage and threatening behaviour.
Steven Partridge (26) was living with his parents on 16th September 16 when his mother refused to give him £10 to buy heroin.
Chesterfield magistrates heard that he lost his temper and smashed a mirror in his bedroom. He left and returned soon afterwards and took £20 from his father’s wallet.
Partridge left a note admitting to the theft and damage but he was no longer welcome at the address.
Sarah Haslam, prosecuting, said he had been in trouble 10 days earlier following a street dispute with his ex-partner, Emma Robinson, over contact with their baby daughter.
He was abusive to her and her family in Bolsover Market Place and followed them onto a bus and continued the abuse in front of passengers. He then walked off the bus and made an insulting gesture.
Partridge, formely of Cavendish Road, Bolsover, and now of no fixed address, was jailed for eight weeks after admitting damage, theft and using threatening behaviour.
Steve Brint, for Partridge, said he had relapsed into drug abuse after a relationship ended and he was denied contact with his daughter.
“There was a chance meeting in the street and he made a polite request to see the child for just five minutes. But a slanging match ensued, started by his ex-partner’s mother, and he responded in similar fashion.
“He had been a heroin user for ten years and he returned to his old ways. He was struggling to cope with not having access to the child,” said Mr Brint.
He added: “He needs to grow up. He wants to take an active part in the child’s upbringing and he has obtained the services of a firm of solicitors.
“But he must stop shouting at his ex-partner and her family, stop using heroin and gain employment. He hasn’t worked for five years and he is seeking voluntary employment.”
