Bishop to receive Rotary’s peace-making award
An award in recognition of international peace-making work will be presented to the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham by Rotary International next month.
The Rt Revd Paul Butler will receive the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Governor of Rotary District 1220, at the International Projects Fair and Dinner at the Nottingham Novotel on Thursday 1st November 2012.
The Paul Harris Fellowship is named after Paul Harris who founded Rotary over 100 years ago. The Fellowship was established in his honour in 1957 to express appreciation for those people who through their life make the world a better place to live
The special event will include a showcase of the many international causes which Rotary members support and are engaged in.
Bishop Paul said: “I am very honoured to receive this award, but do so on behalf of all those that I work with, including many organisations and partners across the world.”
The Rotary Foundation is a registered charity that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarian’s and friends of the Foundation who share a better vision of a better world.
Programs the Rotary Foundation support include Polio Plus, a program designed to eradicate Polio from the world. It supports Humanitarian programs, including grants to fund Club and District Service projects and matching grants for International Projects. The Foundation also supports educational programs like Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, Rotary Grants for University Teachers and Rotary World Peace Scholarships.
