Big Warsop partnership launched
THE long-awaited launch of the lottery funded ‘Big Warsop’ partnership took place at the Hare and Hounds pub on Saturday.
The launch event followed a two-year period of fact-finding, consultation and preparation by leading community members across Warsop who are now ready to receive their share of the funding.
During the event, Big Warsop chairman Michael Smith introduced the Big Warsop team and announced the main areas of benefit that the fund would be supporting in the community.
It is anticipated that at least £1m will be made available from the Big Local Trust to fund the ‘Big Warsop’ plan.
The first project of the Big Warsop plan was also launched at the event - the Community Chest for the parish.
This project is a joint venture between Big Warsop and the ‘Rotary Club – Warsop, Shirebrook & District and involves two rounds of grants per year being funded both parties.
Community groups can now apply for grants of up to £500 and applications will be welcome from any schemes which support good work across the parish.
To celebrate the launch of the Community Chest, four Warsop-based organisations received awards of £500 each.
The groups which received the cash included The Oaklands Centre, Meden School, Welbeck Welfare Football Club and Warsop Carnival Committee.
Chairman Michael Smith invited all residents of Warsop to get involved and help make a difference to their communities.
“Today is all about launching the new partnership, for the last two years we have been laying the foundations, finding what people’s aspirations are and where we need to spend money,” he said.
“Today is a really exciting day as we have been giving out out £2,000 worth of cheques to various groups across the community.”
Application forms for grants will be available from Warsop Town Hall, at www.bigwarsop.co.uk or by calling Lesley Watkins (Big Warsop coordinator) on 01623 651177.
Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities.
The scheme is about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.
