Beat energy price rises, says Bolsover District Council

A double whammy is on the way for householders across Bolsover District: energy prices are rising and subsidies for loft and cavity wall insulation are coming to an end.

The good news, says Bolsover District Council, is there’s still enough time to get your home insulated for free under the authprity’s Warmstreets Insulation Scheme.

Loft and cavity wall insulation are the easiest ways to make your home cheaper to heat. Warmstreets time-limited offer includes free loft insulation for any private household (owned or rented) that currently has none (or less than 100mm), as well as free cavity wall insulation. Households that already have at least 100mm of loft insulation, but less than 150mm, can pay a heavily subsidised price of just £99 to have it topped up to the recommended level. But you need to hurry: government subsidises for insulation will end soon.

Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, Councillor Dennis Kelly said, “The need to be efficient in our energy use is more pressing than ever. So, with winter on its way, bills on the rise and subsidises for insulation coming to an end, now is the right time to act and insulate your home.”

19 million households are expected to experience rises in their energy bills as the result of three of the ‘big six’ energy suppliers recently raising their prices. On 16th October Scottish Power became the third supplier to announce price hikes. Many of their customers are expected to see an 8.7% rise in their bills.

On top of rising bills, the government intends to replace the direct subsidies which currently make insulation free with the Green Deal. Under the Green Deal insulation will no longer be free, but will be paid for through a loan charged to energy bills.

Warm Streets can also offer the best deals in renewable technologies, external wall insulation, replacement heating systems and other improvements to your home. Call 0800 043 9569, or if calling from a mobile 0333 577 9569, to take advantage today. Alternatively, visit www.warmstreets.co.uk
