Ashley Clarkson’s family vow to continue fundraising

THE family of a soldier who took his own life after serving in Afghanistan raised more than £8,000 for charity - but vowed more was to come.

Tragic Ashley Clarkson (23) was found hanged at home last year after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Since then his family have raised cash for the Royal British Legion and the Joint Forces Alliance, who had both helped Ashley before his untimely death, and to raise awareness of PTSD amidst claims that Ashley received little help for his condition.

Ashley father Wayne, of Mansfield Woodhouse, recently handed over the cheque for £8,052, money made from a series of events including a successful sponsored walk in the summer between Crich War Memorial and Mansfield War Memorial.

Wayne said it was important to his family that the money would stay local, to help soldiers struggling to come to terms with civilian life after leaving the army.

He said: “We raised more than thought we would, but it will carry on.

“We’d like to raise as much again and have started the ball rolling for the walk in July.”
