Health leaders have been given the green light for a major new community health and wellbeing centre in Kirkby, to secure the future of the Health Village.
The £1.4 million plan will see the transformation of parts of the former community hospital to provide a home to a range of community services under one roof.
The centre will also include outpatient, diagnostic and treatments across a wide range of clinical services and with a real connection to the integration of care for both health and social across the community for adult and children’s services.
The community services will be complemented further through signposting and access to Ashfield District Council services next to the centre including advice on housing, benefit payments, money management and community safety.
The project is being driven by NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group.
Andrea Brown, Director of Membership Engagement and Innovation for NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group, who is heading the project, said: “We believe that there are huge potential benefits of having services that help people manage their anxieties around issues such as debt alongside services that help their health.
Having a family partnership service, for example, sitting alongside smoking cessation and money advice means people can access all the services that they may need in an environment that promotes healthy living and social wellbeing.”
Talks are still ongoing about how the new centre will look and confirmation of those organisations who will be housed there but works are expected to begin in the autumn with the newly redeveloped centre due to be ready for use in 2015.
Coun Jim Aspinall, Portfolio Holder for Health and Well Being for Ashfield said, “Long before I became a Councillor I had been campaigning to ensure the Health Village in Kirkby survives. I am personally delighted that, with the proposed £1.4million investment, in the Kirkby Health Village, the Mansfield and Ashfield CCG have taken an innovative approach to the many Health and WellBeing issues we have in Ashfield.
