AN ALFRETON teacher has admitted to 21 offences of indecency against 11 females including eight schoolgirls.

Nottingham Crown Court heard on Tuesday, March 12, how Russell Singleton, 56, abused his position of trust while working at Alfreton Grange Arts College, formerly known as Mortimer Wilson secondary school.

Singleton, of Lawn Close, Heanor, was charged with 11 counts of taking or making indecent photographs of eight girls aged between 13 and 17 years and seven counts of sexual activity with a girl while she was aged 15 and 16.

The court also heard how Singleton was charged with three offences of voyeurism by recording private acts for sexual gratification relating to images of females aged between 17 and 23 using a toilet or shower on dates between 2005 and December 2011.

The various offences are alleged to have taken place at Alfreton, Heanor and Swanwick.

Singleton originally entered no pleas at Chesterfield magistrates’ court in November, last year, but pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday to all the original charges.

His case has been adjourned for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on April 22 and it has been reserved for Judge Michael Stokes QC.

Singleton was granted conditional bail providing he has no contact with the complainants, current or former Alfreton Grange School female pupils and no unsupervised contact with anyone aged under the age of 18.

The pupils cannot be identified for legal reasons.
