Alfreton pub Four Horseshoes loses licence

A PUB has had its licence revoked following drug issues and late-night calls to the police.

The Four Horseshoes in Alfreton has been ordered to shut its door by Amber Valley Borough Council’s Licensing Committee.

Members were told that scores of incidents of violent behaviour and possession of drugs on and in the vicinity of the King Street pub have taken place.

The review was called for by Derbyshire Police with the hearing taking place at Ripley Town Hall.

Representatives from the police and borough council attended together with the designated premises supervisor (DPS) Kay Dean and a legal representative for Punch Taverns plc, which owns the premises.

Licensing committee members were both the premises licence holder and the DPS had been made aware of the problems and had been warned by police.

They were also told that considerable support was given by the police, which was implemented, but the concerns continued.

Ultimately the police considered it was necessary and proportionate for the premises to be brought before Amber Valley Borough Council Licensing Committee for consideration.

It was decided that only a revocation of the licence would address the problems. No appeal has been lodged by the premise licence holder.
