Accountant to go through ‘month of hell’ for charity challenges

A DETERMINED accountant is hoping to count the cost of putting himself through a “month of hell” by competing in three huge charity challenges.

James Boler is looking to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by first running from Mansfield to Doncaster on 6th October- 35 miles in one day.

A week later he will tackle the Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest challenge in Nottingham, which is a 12km obstacle course.

Then finally, between 22nd and 31st October, he will saddle up to participate in the Escape to Africa cycle race- a 550km-route across rough terrain and the baking heat of Kenya and Tanzania.

The 29 year-old, who works at Smith Craven Chartered Accountants in Mansfield, says he is fit and active but admits this will easily be the toughest physical challenge he has
faced.

He said: “I’ve run the Mansfield Half Marathon, but that’s about it! I spend a lot of time cycling and running but not for organised events.

“I would say I’m going to be in absolute bits by the end of October!

“I think it’s going to be a lot tougher than I can envisage at the moment.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge but not quite the amount of physical exertion.

“It’s one of things you can’t really prepare for mentally because for me it’s a step into the unknown. If I complete it I will be pretty chuffed, but I’ve never tried anything like this before.”
