A JUDGE has handed a down a life sentence to Mick Philpott for starting the house fire that killed six of his children.

The 56-year-old was found guilty of manslaughter at Nottingham Crown Court this week and sentenced at 11am today, along with his wife Mairead (32) and friend Paul Mosley (46), who were both also found guilty of manslaughter.

They were each given 17 years, which they are expected to serve half of.

Mansfield-born Philpott was told he would serve a minimum of 15 years behind bars.

The three were found to have started the fire at the family home in Derby in May last year following an eight-week trial.
