MORE than 8,000 folk descended on Mansfield Market Place for the town’s annual Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday - a magical evening complete with snow.

And they were rewarded with a varied set from BRIT award winner Lemar, who wowed revellers with hit songs including ‘If There’s Any Justice’, while boy band Eli Prime performed pop and electro songs.

Youngsters were treated to an appearance by television favourite Fireman Sam, while stars from this year’s Palace Theatre panto Jack and the Beanstalk joined the festive extravaganza - including former Doctor Who, Colin Baker.

There was also a performance from Mansfield’s Brunts School choir - who warmed the crowd with Yuletide favourites like Walking in the Air from the Snowman film.
