Last chance to apply for Derbyshire County Council community grants

THERE is just one more chance for clubs and groups to apply for one of Derbyshire County Council’s Community Action Grants to improve life locally.

The county council introduced the Big Society grants last June with a £250,000 funding pot available for small not-for-profit groups and organisations to bid for up to £1,000 to support their work to help build strong and flourishing communities.

It has attracted hundreds of applications and grants totalling more than £191,000 have so far been awarded to 241 local groups to support projects including children’s play schemes, music and arts events, activities for older people, keep fit initiatives, projects for young people and community improvement schemes.

Coun Carol Hart, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for public, said: “Our Community Action Grant scheme is coming to its last round and it’s been fantastic to read the bids and see what groups want to do for their local area.

“We know that even a small amount of money can make a real difference to what they want to achieve so we’re delighted to support them with our Big Society grants.

“Groups who’ve successfully applied for funding are already putting their grants to good use and I would urge people not to miss this last chance to bid.”

The first Community Action Grants were awarded last September and have continued with six rounds so far. The deadline for the seventh and final round is Friday 14th December.
