Labour take Ollerton seat in by-election

Labour have taken the vacant Ollerton seat following a by-election.

More than 2,075 residents took to the polls on Thursday, a return of 22.46 per cent.

Labour candidate Mike Pringle received 1,171 votes, with Conservative candidate Ben Bradley finishing second with 553 votes.

UKIP beat Liberal Democrats into third place with 347 votes.

The Liberal Democrats received just 24 votes. The seat was left vacant following the passing of long-serving Ollerton councillor Stella Smedley.
