Labour Party triumph in Rufford county council by-election

LABOUR Party candidate John Peck has been elected county councillor for the Rufford Division after a sweeping by-election win on Thursday (20th September).

He received 1,557 votes to beat second placed candidate Daniel Mottishaw, from the Conservatives, who picked up 660 votes.

After his victory, Coun Peck said: “We need to create jobs, tackle the potholes and poor state of many pavements, but also a priority for Clipstone is to resolve the headstocks issue and I’m determined to campaign for traffic lights at the dangerous Bilsthorpe/A614 junction.”

Nottinghamshire Independents received 346 votes and UK Independence Party 123 votes.

Turnout was 24 per cent. The by-election was called after the death earlier this year of well-known independent councillor, Les Ward
