Performing CHAMPION figure skater Mark Hanretty has secured a place in the next episode of hit ITV1 show Dancing on Ice.

Mark, who lives in Kirkby, and his dancing partner, the diet and fitness expert Rosemary Conley, are now through to the next round after competing on the movie-themed episode on Sunday evening.

Performing to Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings, the pair notched up a total of 10.5 points from celebrity judges Robin Cousins, Katarina Witt and Louie Spence - which was two down on last week’s show.

And despite a couple of stumbles, the audience offered a warm response and encouraging applause.

Mark said: “Everybody seems to really like Rosemary and she is certainly very popular with all the other celebrities. But she suffers terribly with her nerves.

“She works very hard and she has improved a lot.

“She is so keen to do it for the older ladies and to show that you can do well - but she puts a lot of pressure on herself.”

Once again Mark has thanked everyone in the Ashfield area for their support during the series.

Meanwhile, the next episode is set to be a nail-biting one with each celebrity couples fighting it out in a duel against another pair.

Based on the results of last week’s leader board, the duel will see Mark and Rosemary and Coronation Street actor Andy Whyment and Vicky Ogden competing to secure immunity from the public vote.

“There’s no theme this week - it’s all about the duel,” says Mark.

On last Sunday’s show, favourites Matthew Wolfenden, from Emmerdale, and partner Nina Ulanova and Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter and her partner Matt Evers came top of the leader board with both couples gaining 21.5.

Children’s TV presenter Mark Rhodes and partner Frankie left the show after losing to former Dallas star Charlene Tilton and her partner Matthew Gonzalez in the skate off.

The next episode of Dancing on Ice will be shown on ITV1 on Sunday at 6:45pm. For more details on the show visit www.itv.com. Follow Mark on Twitter @Mark_Hanretty and Dancing on Ice @dancingonice.
