A BRAND new skate park and parkour in Kirkby will be officially opened on Friday.
The £140,000 facility on the town’s Kingsway Park was completed at the end of last year and has already proved to be a big hit.
And now to celebrate it’s official launch, special ‘jam’ sessions involving local riders showcasing their extreme sports skills will be held as well as a series of competitions and demonstrations.
The launch, from noon-3pm, will be hosted by Maverick Industries Ltd - who worked with the local extreme sports community - Ashfield District Council and designers Freemove.
Said Coun Rachel Madden, Kirkby Central ward member and Friends of Kingsway Park chairman: “The new park is already proving to be a big success with the local community, it could not have happened without the dedication of the local skateboarding, BMX and parkour enthusiasts in Kirkby, the professionalism of Maverick Industries and the project management and vision of the landscape team at Ashfield District Council.”
The project was part-funded through a £49,999 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces programme, managed by Groundwork UK, WREN and the council.
