Kirkby Rotary Club give helping hand to Africans

KIRKBY Rotary Club has worked with a Huthwaite firm to help deliver vital medical supplies to Africa.

The club received six pallets of supplies from Pattersons Medical Ltd of Huthwaite, which distributes specialist medical and rehabilitation products.

Pattersons had asked Kirkby Rotary to use its contacts with the Nottinghamshire Police Aid Convoys (NPAC) to arrange for the goods to be transported to suitable destinations.

The pallets were loaded onto NPAC transport at the Pattersons depot on Nunn Brook Road for the first stage of their journey to such countries as Zambia and Gambia.

NPAC, a voluntary organisation which distributes humanitarian and development aid where it is needed, also presented the Kirkby Rotary club with a certificate of thanks.

Tim Daniels, from Pattersons Medical, said: “We periodically accumulate quantities of goods that are surplus to market requirements but have a value and we are keen to place them where they will do most good.

“We’re very grateful to Kirkby Rotary and the Police Convoy for helping in this way.”

Rotn Peter Whelpton, who helped get the project off the ground, added: “Rotary is an international service organisation, and it’s gratifying for our club to be able to facilitate this shipment of medical supplies to deprived areas of Africa.”
