THREE Kirkby girls are hoping their music careers will hit the high notes after they made it through to the final of a national singing competition.
Girl band Bella will be performing at the O2 arena in London on 21st January at the National Live Finals of the Open Mic UK 2011 competition.
Bella - which is made up of local girls Lizzie Parsons (16), Lucy Allen (22) and Jess Heap (16) - impressed the judges at the first auditions for the contest, before making it through both an area final and a regional final - where they performed a version of the Oasis classic ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’.
And having already beaten off competition from thousands of other acts, they are now in with a chance of winning a breakthrough recording contract worth up to £30,000.
Said Lizzie: “We still can’t really believe it yet.
“It’s been a really nice journey because we didn’t think we would get this far.”
Open Mic UK 2011 is a national talent competition which searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists who perform either covers or original material.
Bella, who have only been together about six months, sing covers and say they enjoy performing songs of all different genres.
Lizzie said that she and the other girls - who know each other from being part of the Ashfield Vocal Ensemble - formed Bella when they discovered how much fun it was singing together as a trio.
They decided to enter the Open Mic competition when they saw it advertised - but never envisaged getting through to the final.
“We literally just entered just to see what it would be like and what would happen, never expecting any of this,” she said.
“It’s been amazing.”
The group are now searching for the perfect song to perform at the O2, where they will also be singing in front of guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry, as well as judges from BBC Introducing, national radio and regional press.
Lizzie added: “We are so excited.
“We cannot wait! It seems surreal - it’s one of those dreams you have, to perform at the O2 - it’s crazy!”
