Kirkby Couple celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Pamela, 71 and Douglas 76, of Kings Way, marked the anniversary in style with an open house for friends at Fountain Bridge, Kirkby.

They met in Tamworth, Staffordshire where Douglas was motorcycling.

They fell in love and tied the knot three months later at Basford Register Office.

After 50 years of marriage, they have two daughters Diane and Helen and three grandchildren.

The couple still keep themselves busy and active.

Douglas, who worked as an electrician for Ashfield District Council, is a licensed radio ham, learned Morse Code and speaks to people around the world.

Pamela worked as a hosier at Pretty Polly. She loves to read and keeps herself active.

Pamela said: “We have had some good times, some lovely holidays.

“Douglas would give me anything.

“I think life can be hard some time, but we don’t fall out very often. I think you have got to stick at things - people give up too early these days.

“When we were married Douglas worked all hours, but we got through it.”
