Families who donned firemens’ helmets at a 999 Emergency Services Day were just a whisker from beating a world record.

Hundreds of people turned out for the biggest display of 999 emergency services of the year at Clumber Park at the weekend.

Event organiser Paul Vasper said: “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of all those involved, we were just 30 people away from breaking the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing helmets, which currently stands at 1,263.

“This was particularly disappointing for all those who generously supported the charity and bought helmets to take part, and who helped to raise almost £3,000 which is, in itself, a huge achievement. Despite this, 999 Emergency Services Day was a huge success.”
