PUPILS from schools Kirkby were able to try out their public speaking skills with a competition organised by Kirkby Rotary Club.
The Junior Speaks competition, aimed at children aged 12 and under, was held at St Wilfrid’s Parish Hall on Thursday.
As part of the event, teams from Kirkby Woodhouse, Kingsway and Annesley Primary Schools were given a set amount of time to answer a question on their subject.
Annesley Primary spoke on the school’s Jubilee, Kingway Primary on the Queen and the Jubilee and Kirkby Woodhouse Primary on one member’s badminton success.
The team from Kirkby Woodhouse Primary School, made up of Olivia Porter Stevenson, Alexis Smith and Sophie Green, was overall winner and they all received a £15 gift voucher along with a shield named after the sponsors, Ocean Blue Fisheries of Kirkby
Rtn John Peacock, who organised the event, said: “We are delighted with the continued success of this junior version of the senior competition, which is part of the club’s Youth Opportunities programme.
“It’s very stimulating and gratifying to see the enthusiasm and achievement of the young people.
“Congratulations to all the pupils taking part and to the teachers who coached them. We’re grateful to St Wilfird’s for making the hall available.”
