The inquest into the death of a motorcyclist has been opened today.

Mark David Allen, 47, of Spring Close, Kirkby, Nottinghamshire, died on the Somercotes stretch of the A38 in Derbyshire on Wednesday, July 20, at 7.48pm.

Police are now appealing for any drivers who may have footage of the area from a dashboard camera, even if they did not witness the accident, to come forward.

Lauren Siddall, of the Collision Investigation Unit at Ripley, said: “Mr Allen died at approximately 7.48pm on July 20, 2016.

“He passed away on the A38 eastbound carriageway near to the Somercotes junction.

“We are now appealing for any witnesses at that time with a dashboard camera. Even if the drivers have not seen anything, the camera may have picked something up from both carriageways.”

Mr Allen, who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle, was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra.

Mr Allen, who is married, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Both vehicles were seriously damaged.

Assistant coroner for Derbyshire, James Newman, adjourned the inquest until November 25, 2016.

Anyone with any information about the incident should call police on 101, quoting reference number 679 of July 20.
