David Holmes, of Clegg Hill Drive Huthwaite has called for better road signs to warn drivers of the dangers.

He said: “This is the third crash there in four weeks all attended by emergency services and requiring road closure, not to mention unreported incidents.

“I saw one on the 29th of May where someone was rescued by a tow truck.

“In my opinion this is due to poor location of 30mph signs which at the moment are hidden by overhanging trees.

“But if the signs were visible the accidents would probably still happen as the incidents happen before the signs.”

He said signs needed moving further up the road before the bridge blind corner hazard.

Mr Holmes added: “Due to the previous accidents the trees down the side of the bridge have been removed to recover the vehicles and further incidents could end up landing on the well used cycle walkers trail, so now walkers and cyclists are in danger as well. I hope the council can put astop to this situation before the inevitable happens.”

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Inspector Andy Charlton said: “The crash data for the last four years doesn’t suggest that road design is the primary cause of collisions at this location but the local highways authority keep all locations under constant review.”
