Help at hand for funding

The Funding Fair was held at the town’s Arrow Centre and brought together several leading charities and organisations to offer advice to people looking to raise money or work in the voluntary sector.

“It was an absolutely brilliant event with over 100 visitors,” said Ashfield Voluntary Action manager, Janet Richards, who was one of the event organisers. “People came from Hucknall and beyond and it was very heartwarming to meet so many people who are helping within the community.”

Comic Relief, The Big Lottery Fund, Rural Action and many other charitable groups were on hand throughout the day.

“People were looking for help setting up new groups or recruiting volunteers, publicity advice and training support,” added Janet. “It was an ideal place to access what help is available.”

Kim Pears, manager of the John Godber Centre in Hucknall, was one of the visitors: “I went to see what funding opportunities are available and attended a seminar about how to make funding bids.

“It was a very interesting and worthwhile event giving groups and places like ours the chance to get more tips and ideas on how to develop further as well as build contacts in the voluntary market.”
