The new £2m Brierley Park Medical Centre in Huthwaite was officially opened by Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero at the weekend.
The purpose-built medical centre provides the full range of primary care services while a minor operation suite will enable staff to expand its services for contraception, teenage health and minor surgery.
Senior partner Dr Hilary Lovelock said: “We have always strived to provide our patients with high-quality care so this new facility will help us to continue to provide that service in a modern, comfortable and fit-for-purpose facility our community deserves.
“The feedback we’ve had so far has been amazing – patients have commented that it feels like walking into a hotel with its spacious reception and waiting area and calm atmosphere.”
Gloria said: “In the past I’ve often had to raise concerns about the provision of health care in Ashfield but this event was a real cause for celebration with local residents really welcoming the new service.”
The Brierley Park Medical Centre has replaced inadequate surgery rooms and temporary buildings on New Street with purpose built new premises in Sutton Road.
Doctors at the surgery were instrumental in attracting funding for the centre which is owned by Primary Care investor, Assura Group and was developed by LSP Developments.
The new building has been designed to create a modern, functional and environmentally efficient facility, which has a dedicated patient resource area to help tackle long-term health problems and the prevention of ill health for the community.
New patients are being accepted and registration forms are available from the centre.
The centre is owned and funded by Assura Group, a specialist healthcare property partner that invests in NHS and primary healthcare facilities.
Development manager Amanda Roddy said: “The practice definitely meets the needs of the GPs and patients in the area, and are we looking forward to continuing our work within Sutton as the landlord on the scheme.”
It is a seven doctor practice with an experienced nursing team serving more than 8,000 patients.
