Trust launches Foundation Trust public consultation

Nottinghamshire Healthcare has launched a three-month public consultation process in its bid to become a Foundation Trust (FT).

Becoming an FT would allow greater freedom from Government control, stronger local ownership, and more involvement for the communities which the Trust serves.

Due to the high secure services based at Rampton Hospital that are included in the Trust’s portfolio, the Trust was not previously eligible to apply to become an FT. However, due to changes in legislation, this has changed and the Trust has firm plans underway to become an FT.

Since September 2010 the Trust has been authorised as Foundation Trust Standard. This is a transitional framework designed to give NHS Trusts who host high secure units more operational freedoms and extra autonomy in preparation of plans for all NHS Trusts to become FTs by 2014. The framework also ensures that high secure Trusts operate to the same governance standards as FTs.

Chief executive, Professor Mike Cooke CBE said: “I am delighted that we are now in a position to become a full FT. Successfully passing the assessment process to achieve Foundation Trust Standard and our continuous delivery of high quality standards over the past two years has proven that we are more than ready to become an FT. I look forward to the coming months and the exciting challenges becoming an FT will bring.”
