DOCTORS are urging patients across Shirebrook, Bolsover and Glapwell to urgently stock up on medication in time for the festive period.
This Christmas doctors are reminding patients to order and collect any repeat prescriptions well in advance of Christmas Day as it is customary for many pharmacies in the area to shut early on Christmas Eve.
Dr Ben Milton, chairman for NHS North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The last thing we want is for our patients to have Christmas spoilt by not being able to take regular medication.
“For those with long-term health problems taking daily medication is an important part of their treatment – and many are at risk of suffering serious attacks or hospitalisation if medical supplies run out.
“We’re appealing for people to check that they have enough daily medication to see them through the festive break.
“The winter period is one of the busiest times of the year for the NHS so picking up a repeat prescription in advance could help keep staff free to deal with life-threatening emergencies.”
