Sexual health C-Card campaign launched
Sexual health experts from Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust are promoting the C-Card Campaign for young people at a number of events and colleges in September.
The C-Card is a Derbyshire scheme which provides confidential access to sexual health advice and free condoms, lube and dams to young people who are, or thinking of becoming, sexually active.
Under the scheme, young people can use their credit-card style C-Card at one of 55 registered sites across Derbyshire, including youth centres.
Tracey Palmer, Young People’s Services Co-ordinator for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: “The scheme aims not only to make condoms more acceptable and accessible, but also to overcome the barriers that prevent young people from accessing sexual health services and encourage longer-term sexual health awareness and behaviour.”
She added “The scheme is confidential, too. Workers are trained to be approachable, friendly, non-judgemental and confidential with all young people who want to talk about sex, and what services are available to them.”
Since the campaign was first launched in September 2011, 2,374 C-Cards have been issued and over 27,000 condoms have been distributed across Derbyshire.
The Derbyshire Sexual Health Promotion Service will be on hand at these sites to raise awareness of the C-Card scheme, as well as give free advice and information throughout the month of September to promote the C-Card Campaign:
Derby College, Broomfield Campus – 7th September
Chesterfield College Fresher’s Fair – 12/13th September
University of Derby, Buxton Campus Fair – 27th September
