KING’S Mill Hospital says colorectal cancer patients are benefiting from an enhanced recovery programme.
The programme aims to improve patient outcomes and speed up recovery after surgery - which means they can leave hospital earlier and get back to normal activities sooner.
Health chiefs say patients still receive care after being discharged and can contact the colorectal and stoma care nurse specialists for support and advice.
“They can get home and resume their normal activities earlier than with traditional treatment methods,” said Richard Hind, colorectal and general surgeon.
“The scope for even more patients to benefit from this programme is broad, which is why our trust is looking at introducing this for patients having surgery in other specialities.”
