People in Ashfield and Mansfield are being urged to give blood before they go on holiday to help maintain blood stocks over the summer.
Residents with blood groups B Rh negative and O Rh negative - the universal donor blood type which can be given to people with any type of blood- are particularly in demand.
Blood stocks tend to fall at this time of year as people get distracted by holidays and the warmer weather.
Blood donation sessions are being held at Festival Hall in Kirkby on Friday (8th August) from 12.30pm to 3.15pm and 4.45pm to 7.30pm; at Lammas Leisure Centre on 29th August from 1pm to 3.15pm and 4.45pm to 7.30pm; and at Mansfield Civic Centre on Sunday (10th August) from 10.15am to 12.45pm and 2pm to 4pm.
Holly Mason, donor relations manager for NHS Blood and Transplant in Nottinghamshire, said: “We know people are busy but we’re asking that they remember those hospital patients who need blood to save or improve their lives.
“If you’ve never given blood before, why not make this summer the time you join our donors and make a difference to others?
“Each blood donation can potentially save up to three lives.”
A donor session is also being held this Monday (4th August) at South Forest Leisure Complex, Edwinstowe, from 1pm to 3.30pm and 4.30pm – 7.30pm.
