Health bosses are to sponsor a prestigious sports award to be presented at a high-profile annual event this autumn.
NHS Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has agreed to sponsor Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year at the Bolsover District Sports Awards 2013 on Friday 27th September.
Dr Steve Lloyd, Chairman of NHS Hardwick CCG, said: “As the organisation responsible for the healthcare of more than 100,000 patients in North Eastern Derbyshire, we’re delighted to be supporting an event that plays a key role in promoting healthy lifestyles.
“Bolsover District Council’s commitment to sport helps us achieve our vision of lifting the health of the people of Hardwick.
“I’m particularly pleased that we’re sponsoring the Junior Disabled Sportsperson award, which celebrates the achievements of those who’ve overcome major barriers to lead full and rewarding lives – something that our 16 GP practices are always striving to enable.
“As a community-focused organisation, we’re also keen to give patients a bigger say in how healthcare is provided.
“That’s why I’d urge people to join our Hardwick Patients’ Forum, our Strategic Patients’ Group or the Patient Participation Groups run by their local GP practice. People can also get involved by taking part in the public question times at our regular CCG board meetings.
“Just contact your practice to fund out how to play a part in shaping local health services.”
Deadline for nominations for the 10 award categories is Friday 16th August. Categories include Sportsperson of the Year, Club of the Year, Community Coach of the Year and Young Sports Leader.
Nominations must be based on performance between September 2012 and August 2013. Entries can be made by individuals, clubs or teams involved in schools or sports organisations in Bolsover District. Nominees must be involved in a sport recognised by Sport England.
Winners of the Bolsover District awards will be entered for the Derbyshire Sports Awards, which feed into the BBC East Midlands and BBC National Sports Awards.
Nomination forms are online at www.bolsover.gov.uk or available by calling 01246 242364.
