Three Girl Guides from Kirkby have been baking cakes with in a bid to raise funds for foreign adventures this summer.

Chloe Saxton, Abi Winsor and Charlotte Thompson, all 15, are Young leaders attached to the 1st Kirkby unit.

The three attend Ashfield Academy and hold the Baden Powell Award—the highest honour possible for Guides.

They have each been selected to represent the Guides at international events this year, but need to raise the funds to get there.

Chloe will join a delegation from the Midlands region travelling to San Francisco, while Abi and Charlotte will join a Nottinghamshire county expedition to Iceland. They are each aiming to raise £2,200.

Unit leader Claire Sharman said: “Opportunities like these don’t come along very often for our girls.

“I’m really proud of the hard work they are putting in to take the chance.”

One of their exceedingly good ideas was served up recently when they hosted an Easter coffee and cake evening for the community.

They will also be working at car boot sales, packing bags in supermarkets and applying to local charities for help.
