Global hopes for tidying up Mansfields

Cleaning-up Mansfield could be another global affair next year, a district councillor is hoping.

The International Clean-Up Day was a huge success in Mansfield this year as more than 32 groups came out to tidy up the town.

It even led to an award from Keep Britain Tidy, and praise for the innovative idea of encouraging other Mansfields around the world to get on board.

And district councillor Philip Shields has already set the ball rolling again for the 2014 event.

He said: “We’ve sent emails out to all the other Mansfields across the world and we’re really trying to push it.

“We want people to register, it’s massive for the community and we’re trying to make Mansfield a place to come.”

Organised by the council’s street cleansing team, his year’s saw over 30 litter picks, the installation of bird boxes, educational activities and tree planting.
