Kirkby Rotary Club welcomed the county’s only ‘Giggle Doctor’ as their guest speaker at a recent meeting.

Doctor Flora Flowerpot, aka Helen Jones, was representing Theodora Children’s Trust, the charity that sends play specialists into hospitals to bring laughter therapy to young patients.

Helen is one of 22 Giggle Doctors in the UK and makes regular visits to children’s hospitals in Nottingham and further afield.

She had to complete a two-year training course and works a four-shift in each hospital, covering all the medical areas where her services are required.

She gave examples of her work with patients ranging from a five-month-old baby to a six-year-old boy who spoke no English.

“Our aim is to bring laughter through music, clowning and magic,” she said.

“My days are filled with play, and filled with joy.”

Joint President John Peacock also handed Helen a donation to the charity.
