Full timetable of fun at 2014 Byron Festival

With only three weeks to go before the start of this year’s Byron Festival, organisers are busy putting together the final preparations in what promises to be a week to remember.

The Festival kicks off in style on Saturday 28th June with a Heritage Day and Book Fair in Hucknall town centre.

From 10am-3pm exhibitions will be provided by the library, Hucknall Heritage Society, Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group and local historian Maureen Newton.

Displays will be held at the Central Methodist Church and the market place and is free culminating in a talk by Jim Grundy on the Great War.

Saturday will also see visitors enjoying a tour of the parish church of St Mary Magdalene at 11.30am by guide Richard Jackson.

For motoring enthusiasts there will be a gathering of classic scooters, cars and VW Vans at the market place at 9.30am on Sunday 29th before they leave for Newstead Abbey at 11am.

A wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 190th anniversary of the burial of Lord Byron will take place at 3pm at St Mary’s Church.

Entries to the annual sponsored swim are still being welcomed, which takes place on Tuesday 1st July at Hucknall Leisure Centre. All funds raised will go to Maggie’s Centre at City Hospital.

The Festival’s culminates on Sunday 6th at Newstead Abbey between 2pm-5pm where a packed programme of entertainment awaits visitors to celebrate the life of Lord Byron.
