The vibrant artwork of Majorcan-based artist, Jessie Owen, is display in Southwell Minster.
Twenty-eight colourful paintings depicting scenes from the Book of Revelation will be on show until 15th September.
Entitled ‘Great Voices in Heaven,’ the exhibition features the artwork painted in the 1990s.
The set of paintings were bought by Jessie’s friend, Margaret Henry, who promised to try to exhibit them.
Cathedral Administrator, Caroline Jarvis explained: “They have been kindly loaned to the Cathedral by Margaret’s husband. Sadly, Margaret herself did not live to see the artwork displayed. Her paintings are very striking and colourful, she always depicts God the father in a wing backed chair so we can never see his face. I think people will find them fascinating.”
The exhibition will be accompanied by other events, including on Sunday, 2nd September at 5pm when Canon John Toy will be giving a lecture of the Book of Revelation to support the artwork on show. Sam Baker, an organ scholar at Pembroke College, will also be performing a lunchtime organ recital on Friday, 14th September, 12.15 - 1pm in memory of Margaret Henry.
Entrance to the exhibition is free, but donations from visitors towards the running cost of the Cathedral are welcomed.
